Commit to a Healthier Community
Obesity and overweight is a critical health problem in Tarrant County. Two in three Tarrant County residents are overweight or obese. Obesity and overweight is not just a cosmetic issue -- but a very real health issue that affects everything -- from how well our children do in school to how productive our workforce is.
This epidemic of obesity is really an epidemic of poor nutrition and lack of physical activity. The prevalence of diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, certain types of cancers, muscle and joint problems, and other health problems associated with obesity is higher here than state and national averages.
Do you live in a Tarrant County Zip Code area that has a high prevalence of being OVERWEIGHT or frankly OBESE? For more details, read the Tarrant County Public Health Department report "Overweight and Obesity."

FitFuture is a trademarked, collaborative community effort of United Way of Tarrant County, Fort Worth Public Health, Tarrant County Public Health, University of Texas Health Science Center and the YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth to help local families and individuals live healthier lives. FitFuture is working to create a collective consciousness of health with an aggressive community-wide effort throughout workplaces, faith-based organizations, neighborhood associations, schools, government agencies, and any group that can work to create a culture of fitness.
Registered members of the FitFuture network have committed to decreasing obesity in their neighborhoods, workplaces, schools or other locations. They will set specific goals, determine action plans, share best practices, provide encouragement and achieve measurable results.
